The verified premium: why OKN's most established artists just had a 39% year

OKN Verified 100 closed its September 9, 2026 revision at 1,372.06, up 39.44% over the trailing year. It's built on 451 transactions and 928 valuations, the deepest sample behind any live OKN index. That depth is the point: this isn't a thin read on a handful of trophy sales.

What the data shows

The confidence range runs from 1,186.30 to 1,586.92 around the 1,372.06 print, proportionally tighter than the bands on OKN's thinner regional indices. With over 900 valuations feeding the number, the estimate has less room to swing on the next revision than an index built on a few dozen data points.

Okasen tracks two artist tiers. As of this writing, 319 artists carry verified status and 8,069 sit in the emerging tier. The Verified 100 tracks price and activity within that smaller, established group by construction, which is why a 39.44% move there is a direct read on how buyers are treating known, track-recorded names.

The market context

There's a limit to what this index alone can prove. Okasen does not currently publish a comparable price index for the emerging tier, so this piece can't put a number next to "buyers are shifting money from emerging artists to verified ones." What the data supports is narrower: verified-tier activity, on its own terms, had a strong year on both price and volume.

The OKN Movers 100 list, published September 1, 2026, offers some texture on who's drawing attention right now. Its current top ranks, Mikhael Subotzky, Ayanda Mabulu, Brett Murray, William Kentridge, and Norman Catherine among them, are all tagged verified tier. This is the first published vintage of Movers, so every entry shows as new with no prior rank to compare against. That's worth saying plainly: this list describes who's active today, not who's rising, because there's nothing yet to rise against.

What it means and what to watch

Read the 39.44% figure as evidence of strength within the verified tier, not as proof of a rotation away from emerging artists. The two claims sound similar but aren't the same, and only the first one has data behind it right now.

Watch the next Movers vintage for the first real rank-change data, and watch whether an emerging-tier index eventually gives this comparison the other half it's currently missing.

Method note: figures are from the OKN Verified 100 index (methodology blend-v1, vintage 2026-09-09) and the OKN Movers 100 list (vintage 2026-09-01). Artist tier counts are a point-in-time platform snapshot, not a dated index series, and will change as new artists are added.
